Empathy for Life integrated Development Association (ELiDA) is a not-for-profit, gender-focused, women-led, non-partisan, and secular indigenous CSO established in 2008 by women volunteer professionals who are committed to contributing to the solution of the multidimensional, psycho-social, economic and health-related challenges faced by women, girls, youth, and children in Ethiopia.

 ELiDA aspires to see socially responsible, empowered, and productive citizens, who respect and actively protect human rights for all.

What We Do

Girl’s Education and GBV

ELiDA partnered with more than 15 donors in the last 14 years on projects targeting to improve access to education for girls and women in rural Afar and Amhara regions.

Peacebuilding

ELiDA is partnering with donors and stakeholders to build the culture of democratic dialogue to conflicts in various parts of the country and amplify the role of women in peacebuilding.

Good governance and democracy

ELiDA partnered with media (Addis Maleda newspaper) and renowned women writers to publish a series of 10articles on women’s role in politics and peacebuilding in Ethiopia

Human rights and conflict management

One of the flagship projects is ‘The Tales of Borkena’a river that crosses two regions (Amhara and Afar) and is often a source of conflict among farming communities living by the river. 

Livelihood and Economic Empowerment

ELiDA trains vulnerable and economically poor women to engage in income-generating activities, and build enterpruneial attitude.

Environment and climate change

ELiDA works on natural resource conservation through awareness creation, community engagement and watershed activities, and waste management interventions.
